This is the tenth Chemistry in the Oil Industry symposium in a series organised by the RSC. For the fourth time this symposium is being cosponsored by EOSCA (European Oilfields Speciality Chemicals Association).
Environmental issues have become an increasing area of attention over the last few years for anyone involved with the manufacture, supply and application of speciality chemicals in the Oil Industry. The legislative framework governing the use of such materials is continually being updated and re-interpreted. Thus it is crucial to keep abreast of the latest thinking on these matters which is the reason that Chemistry in the Oil Industry X has a strong focus on environmental matters
In particular, REACH is the most significant legislation to impact on the whole chemical supply chain necessitating raw material producers, formulators and end-users to work closely together in the future. Hence, in addition to the many oil field chemical developments presented at this conference, the opening presentations will focus on REACH and its implications.
The symposium will endeavour to highlight the technological and operational impact of REACH regulations over the next decade and OSPARCOM regulatory structures anticipated to come into effect by 2020. Recognition of technology gaps and how they might be filled is of great relevance. In addition the symposium will cover aspects of chemistry in the upstream and downstream oil industry including flow assurance, integrity management, technologies for sub-sea and deep water operations, separation, corrosion and biological control, scale, drilling fluids, advanced chemical deployment, refinery process applications and novel chemistry.
Location
The symposium will be held in the Manchester Conference Centre, Weston Building, Sackville Street, Manchester which is part of Manchester University. Manchester is convenient for the motorway networks and only 10 miles from Manchester Airport. There is ample public car parking space near the venue.
Exhibition and Poster Display
An exhibition and poster display will be held on 6th and 7th November and there will be time for delegates to talk with exhibitors and poster presenters between lecture sessions.
Anyone wishing to be an exhibitor or present a poster should contact the Symposium Secretariat directly.
Job Fair
A Job Fair will be held throughout the symposium and companies with jobs available in the oil industry should contact the Symposium Secretariat by 15th October to ensure that their vacancies can be displayed.
Registration and Fees
Please complete the attached registration form (or a copy) and send it to the Symposium Secretariat. Fees must be paid by 1st November 2007. The registration fee includes attendance at the symposium, the symposium information pack, a CD-ROM and a softback of the Symposium Proceedings and posters, refreshments and meals as listed below.

Meals
The registration fee includes a Reception and Banquet Dinner at the popular Yang Sing restaurant in Manchester on the evening of 6th November and lunches and refreshments at the Manchester Conference Centre during the symposium on6th and 7th November. It is expected that delegates will make their own arrangements for dinner on the registration evening, 5th November.
